Indologist | Researcher | Sanskrit Translator | President of the Euro-Asian Studies Association
Vlad Sovarel (b. 1972) is one of the representative voices of Romanian Indology, with a formation built both in Romania and in India. Drawn to Indian cultural space since adolescence, he studied Sanskrit and Bengali with Prof. Dr. Amita Bhose (1990-1992), which he later deepened in Kolkata, where he studied Sanskrit texts from the Advaita Vedanta tradition with Prof. Dr. Satchitananda Dhar and Advaita Tantra (Trika) with Prof. Dr. Debabrata Sen Sharma (1996-2000).
Returning to Romania, he engaged in numerous Indology projects: translations from Sanskrit, courses and conferences, leading the Euro-Asian Studies Association and, from 2018, affiliated research at the Institute for the History of Religions in Bucharest.
His presence at Yoga Festival brings the perspective of classical texts and tradition into the conversation - an essential anchor for any dialogue about authenticity in yoga.
Yoga has become more visible than ever - in studios, on social media, in retreats and festivals. But with this expansion comes an essential question: is there still authenticity in yoga?
This panel brings together yoga teachers, studio founders, and researchers from Romania for an open conversation about the balance between essence and adaptation in an ever-changing world.
Topics of exploration
If you wonder what yoga still means when viewed through the eyes of Sanskrit tradition and classical texts, Vlad Sovarel invites you to a sincere and deeply rooted conversation at Yoga Festival.
